Former U.S. President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump addresses a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York, on October 27, 2024. Andrew Kelly | Reuters. On Sunday, former President Donald Trump gave his usual speeches on issues such as immigration and the economy at a well-attended rally at Madison Square Garden. This event was intended to mark the beginning of his final pitch just nine days before Election Day, taking place in a location he has wanted to campaign in for years, although it is not considered a battleground. However, his over-hour-long speech in his hometown of New York City was largely overshadowed by remarks from the warm-up speakers during the approximately five hours leading up to his main address. A comedian told jokes about Latinos and Black Americans that were considered racist and received criticism from multiple Republican Congress members and speakers who were using inflammatory language to criticize Vice President Kamala Harris. At a large rally in the World’s Most Famous Arena, Trump criticized his opponents as ‘the enemy from within’, called the media ‘the enemy of the people’, made a comment about Harris’ low intelligence, and referred to her as a ‘vessel’ for his opponents. He also threatened that in case of a war with China, the U.S. would defeat them. Trump referred to an undefined collection of individuals, stating that they are intelligent and relentless. He used the term “the enemy from within” to describe them, emphasizing the need to overcome this group. When I mention the enemy from within, the opposing side becomes very agitated. … They have harmed this country significantly. They truly are the internal adversary. “But this is who we’re up against,” he went on to say. However, it was the lesser-known speakers before Trump took the stage that made significant impacts outside the arena. More from NBC News:
